Rugby Fun Day 2023

Burnside Park played host to 58 teams from 20 different schools for the CANTABS Rugby Fun Day, a non-competitive day of Rugby where no scores are kept!

This year we had 5 grades participating with a Girls Only Grade being added, before games started these girls were able to take part in a tackle skills session with the amazing Canterbury Rugby Activators, who were outstanding in activations across the day.

We had 6 teams enter the Girls Grade which is an awesome amount for the first year running and we hope that this will encourage them to play in the future.

Although the weather was cold and the ground was wet the kids loved getting stuck into the games without worrying about the score, Rugby really was the winner on the day!

The day wouldn’t have been possible without our wonderful refs, Lyndon, and her team of refs from CRFU gave up their time to come volunteer for the day and gain some valuable experience in their refereeing.

A huge thank you also must go out to Cantabrians for helping put on such a fun event and supplying the apples for the day, alongside DFL Seed who sponsored each team a match ball for the day.
